8 things to help you reset in the New Year
(that don’t cost much, literally and mentally)
You’ve seen the same things flooding in your inbox: “7 Workouts for $7!”, “Solutions for every resolution”, “Get 1 month free to try XYZ”, “Out with the old, in with the new (arrivals).” And if you haven’t, consider yourself lucky. By now I’m sure you know you do not have to have an extensive list of 5–8 NY resolutions. However, if they work for you, journey on.
Here is a curated list of things that can help frame a new start to the year that are not so much resolutions, but just simple tasks.
1. Change your phone wallpaper & reorganize apps
It is without a doubt that 2024 will continue on to be a year of heavy smartphone usage and reliance. After a quick scroll through your photos and setting a new lock screen (something positive: think family or your pet), spend 20–30 minutes reorganizing the apps on your phone. Think back to 2021 when Widgetsmith came out, try using SmartStack for important apps (maps to quickly tell you how long your commute will take, Apple News, etc.) making your daily productivity just a little bit easier.
You can also do a deep delete; this is just as efficient and results in less visual clutter. This is one the easiest things to start with and since most of us use a phone everyday, it will create a larger impact than you think.
2. Declutter one area of your home
After you declutter your phone, it’s time to declutter in real life.
While you should do this monthly, the perfect time to do a deep declutter is at the beginning of the month while you have the energy and are feeling fresh. Place an emphasis on one area, ie: the living room, the laundry room, to not overwhelm yourself. This also enables a sense of accomplishment when you are done.
All the “I’ll do it after the holidays” excuses are old now. Clean the house, go to a donation center!
